Well Tracking allows solving several tasks, including the following:
- Projecting the geologic survey features, i.e. wells, well rows, pads, formations, fields and license areas;
- Performing data editing operations;
- Processing inclination data;
- Creating different types of reports;
- Exporting project data to the text files;
- Performing batch loading of the table data to geodatabase.
Administration options allow providing distribution system of user privileges to work with different tool groups of the extension.
The extension operations are performed stepwise. Each step is represented by a dialog, where user can specify the required features parameters, create (edit) the features geometry etc.
The invalid input data is subject to control at each step, i.e. there is an option to edit such data directly in the appropriate wizard. The extension returns the appropriate explanatory messages and the work of the wizard becomes disabled until all the input errors are corrected.
Prior to start working with the Well Tracking extension the database using the Database Creator tool should be created. The Database Creator tool allows to create tables, attribute feature classes tables and automatically establish relates between these tables in order to provide integrity of data which will be further used by the extension.
Well Tracking has been implemented and is now being successfully used at TNK-BP (Russian oil production company) to solve the most urgent oil production tasks. For more details see “Spatial Well Data Management: Eliminate Drilling Risks with Well Tracking” – an article written by Data East and TNK-BP specialists.
